My Educational/Training Background
Regarding my professional/educational status, I hold a Doctor of Philosophy in Family Therapy, a Master of Science in Counseling & Guidance, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Religion. I have received specialized training in Logotherapy, Emotionally-Focused Therapy, and Collaborative Law. I am licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists (TSBEMFT) and the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors (TSBEPC). Additionally, the TSBEMFT and the TSBEPC certify me as an Approved Supervisor. Also, I have a clinical membership in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), a professional membership in the American Counseling Association (ACA), and an ordination with the Universal Life Church. As part of maintaining my licenses, I attend continuing education each year. Further, I feel a professional obligation to frequently read materials that help me stay abreast of the most recent advances in mind, body, and spirit health.
Unlike some clinicians, I have a significant affinity for research, educating others, and co-creating realistic, attainable, and observable outcomes. As such, you can feel confident that what I share and how I work with you represent the most up-to-date ideas in the wellness field. Specifically, I have advanced knowledge/experience in the recognition of spirituality within the psychotherapy process and using mindfulness (and other mind/body techniques) to help people alleviate suffering.
My Hope
Regardless of what you have heard, read, and/or been told about your condition, the vast majority of people have numerous possibilities for healing and complete or almost complete recovery. Many people assume that they have to learn how to live with a certain level of suffering (e.g., persistent worry, sadness, insomnia, being overweight, unfulfilling/exploitive relationships, “mood swings”, etc.). Nothing could be further from the truth. None of us are destined to have a life of suffering—our genes, families of origins, neurochemicals, etc., can influence our lives, but they need not determine our futures, as most psychological/emotional conditions can be overcome. So, if you are one of the many people who have accepted that you are subject to your mental condition “due to a chemical imbalance” or some other deterministic explanation, we can discuss other ways of making sense of your life such that you may awaken to possibilities you never previously imagined.
My Fun
My wife of 13 years, our son, and I live in Tarrant County. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with them, my family/friends, exercising (i.e., strength training, running, Bikram Yoga, etc.), listening to music, and cooking/eating food. I am the second of five kids, with an older and three younger sisters, and am originally from the Sherman, Texas area.
